Read MoreMy research focuses on Environmental Chemistry and Materials Science. Over the last few years my main interests are on the occurrence, fate, and impact of microplastics and nanoplastics in different compartments including those leading to human exposure. My research also covers the fate, toxicity, and removal of aqueous (micro)pollutants from water and wastewater and the production of nanostructured surfaces with different applications in Environmental Technology.
I participated in > 50 research projects and contracts, authored/co-authored > 150 scientific articles in high impact journals (H-Scopus = 45) and supervised 22 Doctoral Thesis. I regularly serve as project evaluator for different national and international funding agencies. I'm associate editor of RSC Advances (The Royal Society of Chemistry), Nanotechnology for Environmental Engineering (Springer), Microplastics (MDPI), Toxics (MDPI), Water Emerging Contaminants & Nanoplastics (OAE Publishing Inc.), and Cambridge Prisms: Plastics (Cambridge University Press) and lead since 2020 the Research Network on Plastic Waste in the Environment, EnviroPlaNet
